Session Prep Guide
This is here to help you feel prepared without overthinking it. Nothing here is meant to feel like a checklist—you don’t need to do everything. Just use what’s helpful.
A Week Before
Outfits
This is a good time to make sure everything is ready and feels good to wear.
- Try everything on (comfort matters most)
- Make sure all pieces are together (shoes, layers, accessories)
- You’re always welcome to send me options if you want feedback

Choosing your location
If we haven’t locked in your location yet, I’ll be in touch soon to go over options.
More details here:
Weather
I always keep an eye on conditions and will reach out if anything needs to shift.
If we need to reschedule due to weather, it’s always flexible and free.
A few things that help everything photograph well
Not required—but these small things tend to make a difference in how everything looks and feels.
- Haircuts about a week before (especially for guys)
- Fresh color if you’re updating anything
- Neutral or clear braces bands if possible
- Avoid sunburns, heavy tan lines, or self-tanner right before
Clothing should feel good to move in, not just look good standing still.
We’ll be walking, sitting, lifting kids, and moving naturally throughout the session—so comfort really matters.
- Outfits should stay in place when you move or sit
- Shoes should be secure and easy to walk in
- Dresses or skirts should feel comfortable to move in (shorts underneath work great)
- Avoid anything too tight, stiff, or distracting
- Straps and fit should feel secure from all angles
Think: comfortable, easy, and still pulled together.
The day before + day of
A few final things
- Steam or iron outfits if needed
- Empty pockets
- Bring backups for little ones if helpful
- Clean nails / remove old polish
- Neat facial hair if applicable
- Makeup slightly more polished than everyday + touch-up items
- Brush teeth before leaving
- Avoid transition lenses if possible
Eat, rest, and hydrate
- Eat before your session (it makes a big difference)
- Avoid foods that stain right before
- Drink water
- Rest when you can—especially for kids
Arrival + timing
Plan to arrive about 15 minutes early.
That gives you time to park, adjust outfits, and settle in.
If you arrive early and you’re ready, just reach out.
The heart of it all
The best thing you can bring is a relaxed mindset.
This is time together—not something to perform.
- Keep things light
- Let kids be themselves
- Don’t worry about perfection
- If things feel a little chaotic, that’s completely normal
I’ll guide everything so you don’t have to think about what’s next.
Some of the best images always happen in between the planned moments—so just stay with your people.
A little pre-session fun
If you want to ease into it early:
- Play music while getting ready
- Have a car dance party on the way
- Keep the energy light on the drive over
The more relaxed you feel before you arrive, the easier everything flows.
If you need anything
If questions come up or you want to run something by me, I’m always happy to help.
I can’t wait to see you soon
